Boys Room

When we bought this home we were living in a rental and had a few months to fix up the home before we moved in.  My goal was to have the upstairs finished before we moved in.  That way we could relax upstairs, but also that is where most of the stuff is.  By having the bedrooms finished we would not have to move any beds, dressers, toys, or clothes.  It made everything really easy!

So I started the upstairs with the Boys Room

I figured this would be the easiest room, I did not have huge plans for this room.

This was the blank slate I had after the carpet was removed!

The ceiling is a fun unique shape

The boys room has a lot of doors!  They have a normal closet, a storage room that we finished and made their toy closet, and a side storage that we keep everything we did not want in the garage in!

The first thing I did was paint the ceiling, the ceilings in this home had not been painted in a long time and they needed to be refreshed.  I then painted the baseboards.  I picked a bright white for all the trim in our home, I wanted it to look crisp and clean!

After that I painted the blue.  I wanted a grayish blue, and it is a neat color that changes with the lighting. it sometimes is really blue and sometimes grey.  It is Take Five from SW.

I only painted half the walls because I am going to add a chair rail and paint the bottom half white

The toy closet got painted all blue

Next the chair rail went up and everything got painted white

After painting the white the blue needed touched up then the room got cleaned out.

Finally time for the carpet!  The padding first

Then the carpet!  I LOVE how their room turned out
Simple but classy! Perfect for boys.

The walk in toy closet is so awesome!

The boys had this corner that  needed something, and it was perfect for a built in desk.
I put up 1x1's to hold the desk. and painted everything white to blend.

I LOVE how the desk nook turned out.

The boys room is finished!

closet and storage

Desk area.

Their books, my boys love to read!

My boys love their space!  It is a really good size room with lots of storage.

Half Bath

The first room we fixed up was the little half bath, I wanted a clean bathroom to use while I worked on the rest of the house!!

With it being a foreclosure the toilets were nasty! They sat for an entire year without being flushed!  So they had to go and be replaced!!

(when we removed the toilet there was still wall paper behind it!)

With this clean slate I painted first. The theme for this home were soft beachy colors and most of the home is painted Aloof Grey by Sherwin Williams.  I also had a soft green that I did just in the family room, so I decided to paint the bathroom two different colors with the chair rail separating the two colors.  I also painted the cream cabinet a darker grey and I LOVE how it turned out!  The grey is beautiful!

Next I laid tile on the floors.  I had never laid tile before, but I watched a ton of videos on youtube, and I took my time and cut everything, then laid it out with spacers, then laid them one at a time!  I am sure I took way longer than a professional, but it was not very hard, and I am so proud I did it myself!!!

With the tile setting over night the next day I grouted the tile.  It was messy, but really easy! I was surprised at how easy it was to add a little more, or wipe off the edges while it was wet.  All you need is a wet sponge!  I love how the tile looks all finished!

Lastly my husband installed the new toilet!  it is so pretty and new!  Nothing better than a brand new potty! I then had to reapply the base board I had to remove to install the tile and the half bathroom was finished!  It felt so good to have one room in the house finished!

A few months after moving in I had no place for this mirror,
until I realized it would fit perfectly in the half bath!

A new Mirror and light fixture were the finished touches in this bathroom

It was a pretty cheap room to fix, maybe only $350 after all the cost were added, for toilet, new light, new faucet, tile, paint, and a new door knob!  Not too bad and way better than what was there before!

Our Project!

My husband and I decided to be adventurous and buy a foreclosure and see what we could do to repair the damages and make it better than new!  This blog is our adventures in remodeling our home!

To start the blog, I guess you need to see what we started with!  It was a beautiful home with a great floor plan, and lots of potential!  We fell in love the moment we first saw it!  We could see what it could become!

I hope you enjoy seeing the changes as much as we have had making them!
